The U.K. quartet PINS release their latest video ‘Everyone Says’ off their album Wild Nights.
Sometimes you’re having an On Day. You turned a Monday into a Friday by checking off a thousand things from your To Do List, or maybe you finally, FINALLY nailed that roundhouse kick you’ve been practicing in your spare time while blasting ‘Eye of the Tiger.’ But then you have an Off Day: feeling slarchy and blergh-ish, your landlord shut the water off right as you were about to take a shower, you know – gross things. That’s when you have to rise up and face the day, a theme prominent in ‘Everyone Says,’ a song that PINS singer Faith Vern said “[is about] someone really upset and contemplating whether they wanted to live. By the end of it we wanted it to look like they were reborn and survived.” The lo-fi, grainy video was shot with guitarist Lois McDonald’s hand-held camera in a Super 8 Motel, a space that any touring band is familiar with.
‘Everyone Says’ opens with a solemn guitar leading into Faith Vern’s melancholy vocals, and the lyrics suggest the wandering insecurities of being adults and grappling with doing what you love while keeping the “Real Job” thinkers away. Vern sums it up perfectly at the end of a T New York Times interview: “I’ve started to realize that I’m not looking at what I want to be and who I want to be anymore,” Vern says. “It’s what I am doing and who I am now.”
PINS have had a busy year opening for Sleater-Kinney on a few slots in their U.K. tour and releasing videos “Young Girls” back in May and the tragically hip video “Too Little Too Late.” The latter video was styled by none other than high-fashion’s arbiter of rock n’ roll cool, Heidi Slimane of Saint Laurent. The video opens with kicky-little Beatle boots in blush pink and red stars stepping into frame. Drool. With a slew of videos and a new album, Wild Nights, off Bella Union Records. PINS are in for a great 2015.
And an epic side note: PINS will perform at SODO Lounge in Seattle on June 19th. Go.
